History

Art on Purpose was founded in spring 2005 by artist, educator, and curator Peter Bruun. In its inaugural year, the organization created five original exhibitions seen by nearly 6,000 people. Over 800 individuals took part in art workshops conducted by Art on Purpose or exhibited in one of the five shows.

The new organization attracted critical acclaim, with feature articles inThe Baltimore Sun, City Paper, and Baltimore’s Child, and radio appearances on WYPR’s Maryland  Morning, The Signal, and WTMD’sClear Reception.

Art on Purpose’s 2005-2006 season ended on a high-note when it was named “Best Community Arts Organization 2006” by Baltimore Magazine.
